Noncitizen Studio

11/11/2022-13/01/2023

Exhibition at Mångkulturellt centrum, Stockholm

Welcome to our studio!

The exhibition Noncitizen Studio shows ongoing as well as completed projects from Noncitizen. This association amplifies the voices and stories of migrants rarely captured by the public. Last spring, Noncitizen launched the Noncitizen Media project, focusing on live streaming. The exhibitors have reformulated the exhibition space into a studio environment where thoughts and ideas will be constantly reworked. During the exhibition period, the room will be used to broadcast live programs.

Many of the works in the exhibition deal with oppression and injustices concerning migration. Borders, freedom of movement, and the right to have rights are some of the issues explored in these works. Exploitation in the labor market or not being allowed to study because of the lack of social security numbers affect people’s everyday life, leading to exclusion and trauma.

Noncitizen works for everyone’s right to create and reach out with their own stories. The works in the exhibition vary in expression and format. This sprawl is an artistic method in the association’s learning and creative activities. Through this complexity, we can find ways out of the world we don’t want to live in and create new worlds we can’t live without.
